It was with a very heavy heart that the Executive Committee took the decision in their Executive Committee meeting that the 2020 conference in Hong Kong has to be cancelled due to the COVID virus situation. It is massively disappointing, but these are exceptional times. The Committee wish to thank Phyllis McKenna and her team in Hong Kong for their excellent preparations – it would have been an amazing event but it has become increasingly evident that current circumstances would not support the holding of the conference this year in the usual face to face format.
The next face to face conference for IAIR will be in Helsinki in the autumn of 2021, I know Helena Kontkanen and her team will be looking forward to providing you with a warm Finnish welcome.
In the meantime, we will be holding our 2020 Annual General Meeting by ZOOM conference – we will circulate details shortly. We will also aim to confirm the dates for the 2021 conference, as usual in this AGM.
We are also looking into the possibility of delivering some of the planned conference sessions by video conference around the date of the planned 2020 conference –the Executive Committee are working on the feasibility and practicalities of delivering such sessions.
In the meantime please stay safe and healthy.
