She was appointed Registrar of Companies of Mauritius in 1989. Since the proclamation of the Business Registration Act in 2006 she is also the Registrar of Businesses and the Director of Insolvency Service following the Insolvency Act 2009. Ms. Chinien is a member of the Listing Executive Committee of the Stock Exchange Limited and of the Financial Reporting Council. She has been involved in the drafting of various laws and has served as a member of the Committee which formulated the Code of Corporate Governance. She was the team leader for the Compliance and Enforcement committee. In addition Ms. Chinien has lectured in Company Law and Insolvency Law at the University of Mauritius for a number of years. She has been a guest speaker in World Bank organized forums and conferences, as well as other international workshops. Ms. Chinien served as a President of the Corporate Register’s Forum, an organization which regroups Registrars in a number of jurisdictions in the world. She was a past Chair of the International Association of Insolvency Regulators. Ms. Chinien received a B.A. (Hons) in Law from U.K. and is a Barrister-at-law from the Middle Temple, London, UK.
